Hey there! I began a podcast earlier this year which will now be based here. The entire transcript is included here. Look for weekly episodes of the faith-based news brief for busy mamas.
Hey ladies and welcome back to the podcast! My name is Isa and I am a work-at-home homeschooling mom who just so happens to be a news junkie and professional conservative content creator, which happens to explain who I am, what this podcast is about, and why it has been so very long since I last recorded an episode.
I am taking a crack at it yet again though and aim to have regular weekly episodes providing quick headlines for busy Christian mamas who want to stay informed but don't have the time, patients, or mental energy to wade through the muck of the mainstream news and want simple, straightforward news from a Christian, conservative perspective.
I’ve also made a slight change to the title of this podcast to “prayerful” news updates. The reason for this is, at the end of the day, there is no point in me sharing the news with you if I'm also not trying to encourage you in Christ, and I think what a lot of mamas struggle with is not getting discouraged, distressed or depressed while listening to the news which makes it difficult to follow.
So, I am hoping to present the news in a way that reminds you who is Lord and what He has done for all the suffering, horror, and injustice in the world.
This podcast is dedicated to news and views that concern the pro-life, pro-liberty woman of faith, so it’s important to keep faith at the center of it all.
Highly Disturbing Discovery in the Home of Indiana Abortionist
That being said, we’re beginning our headlines today with a very gruesome story that underscores the depth of depravity among those who practice the systematic slaughter of innocent babies in the womb.
Earlier this month, a man considered by many to be the most prolific abortionist in Indiana passed away, but when his family began to go through his belongings, they found something horrific.
The doctor, Dr. Ulrich “George” Klopfer, had kept what police described as over 2,200 “medically preserved fetal remains” on his property, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Even sicker, as Life Site News notes, bodies were most likely transferred from The Women’s Pavilion abortion clinic in South Bend where Klopfer worked to his home in Illinois. For some insanely sick reason.
Mayor Pete Hopes 2,200 Fetal Remains Don’t Stop “Access” to Abortion
So, meanwhile, of course, there are many individuals running for president who want to make sure that people like this Dr. Klopfer have plenty of business. Like South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, under whose watch and presumably blessing, Klopfer was acting.
After a week, Buttigieg broke his silence on Wednesday, saying that he hopes we won’t politicize this incident or that it won’t prevent other abortion doctors from murdering unborn babies. We can only presume all he hopes those abortionists do is refrain from bringing the remains home.
“Like everyone, I find the news out of Illinois extremely disturbing, and I think it’s important that it be fully investigated,” Buttigieg told WSBT. “I also hope it doesn’t get caught up in politics at a time when women need access to healthcare. But there’s no question that what happened is disturbing, it’s unacceptable, and it needs to be looked into fully.”
Earlier this month, Buttigieg, who like many of the Democratic primary candidates supports abortion up until birth, defended his position by invoking the Bible itself.
“There's a lot of parts of the Bible that talk about how life begins with breath,” he told the hip hop show The Breakfast Club. “So even that is something we can interpret differently."
“I might draw the line here, you might draw the line there, but the most important thing is the person who should be drawing the line is the woman making the decision,” he added.
Buttigieg is right about one thing: what this abortionist was doing in his town is disturbing, both in his capacity as a doctor and in his actions which, from Buttigige’s position, could only amount to improper disposal of biological waste.
In his response, Mayor Pete confirms to us the humanity of these children that, no matter how extreme his party’s position on abortion has gotten, is impossible to ignore.
Arizona Artists’ Court Victory for Religious Liberty
Over in Arizona, a pair of Pheonix artists were handed a significant victory in court this week as a judge ruled the city could not force them to violate their consciences and craft wedding invitations for same-sex weddings.
Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski, the co-owners and artists of Brush & Nib Studio, had refused to use their talent for weddings with which their deeply-held Christian faith conflicted.
The Alliance Defending Freedom’s Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs, who argued on the artists’ behalf before the Arizona Supreme Court, stated that that “The government shouldn’t threaten artists with jail time and fines to force them to create custom artwork, such as wedding invitations, expressing messages that violate their beliefs, and that’s what the court has affirmed today. Joanna and Breanna work with all people; they just don’t promote all messages. They, like all creative professionals, should be free to create art consistent with their convictions without the threat of government punishment. Instead, government must protect the freedom of artists to choose which messages to express through their own creations. The court was right to find that protections for free speech and religion protect the freedom of creative professionals to choose for themselves what messages to express through their custom artwork.”
The Arizona Supreme Court, in turn, ruled that “an individual has autonomy over his or her speech and thus may not be forced to speak a message he or she does not wish to say.”
“The rights of free speech and free exercise, so precious to this nation since its founding, are not limited to soft murmurings behind the doors of a person’s home or church, or private conversations with like-minded friends and family.”
“These guarantees protect the right of every American to express their beliefs in public. This includes the right to create and sell words, paintings, and art that express a person’s sincere religious beliefs. With these fundamental principles in mind, today we hold that the City of Phoenix…cannot apply its Human Relations Ordinance…to force Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski…to create custom wedding invitations celebrating same-sex wedding ceremonies in violation of their sincerely held religious beliefs.”
Sometimes as Christians it can feel like we’re swimming upstream in a raging current that is rushing away from God’s laws, but we cannot neglect to exercise the rights we have in this country to defend what is rightfully ours.
ICYMI From the Fake News Media
So, one of my aims with this podcast is to cover the news that goes largely ignored by the mainstream media, and when it comes to the actions of Obama officials in the days leading up to the Trump-Russia investigation, such stories are always ignored.
Last week, criminal charges were recommended against former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, in spite of an appeal from McCabe, as Fox News reported:
McCabe — the former deputy and acting director of the FBI — appealed the decision of the U.S. attorney for Washington all the way up to Jeffrey Rosen, the deputy attorney general, but he rejected that request, according to a person familiar with the situation.
A source close to McCabe’s legal team said they received an email from the Department of Justice which said, “The Department rejected your appeal of the United States Attorney’s Office’s decision in this matter. Any further inquiries should be directed to the United States Attorney’s Office.”
The charges related to the role he played in the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s notorious emails, an investigation which has long come under scrutiny as more details of the FBI’s mishandling of the case is revealed.
This week, the DOJ Inspector General revealed that he had referred former FBI Director James Comey for criminal charges relating to his leaking memos he wrote about his conversations with President Trump, which may have been considered classified, to the press in 2017 before the inception of the Special Counsel investigation.
In July, we learned that after being fired as FBI Director, agents showed up at Comey’s door to retrieve those memos as they were considered government property.
The DOJ ultimately opted not to pursue charges against Comey, however.
That said, Horowitz’s long-awaited report into potential FISA abuses that occurred when the FBI was applying for FISA warrants to surveil members of the Trump campaign in 2016 is still forthcoming. This is long-awaited because it is believed that the FBI, under Comey’s direction, of course, used the infamous Steele dossier as part of their warrant applications when it was already known that ex-British spy Christopher Steele, who compiled the dossier while working as a source for the FBI and the opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which the Clinton campaign had hired, was unreliable.
As I have done in the past I will recommend Dan Bongino’s “Spygate: The Attempted Sabotage of Donald J. Trump” to understand the architecture of the Trump-Russia investigation better, as well “Witch Hunt: The Story of the Greatest Mass Delusion in American Political History” by Gregg Jarrett for more background on this insane political scandal.
Democratic Primary Update
And finally, let’s check in on the 2020 primary race from Real Clear Politics’ polling.
Bill de Blasio, who had been chugging along for months despite consistently polling 0%, announced he had dropped out of the race on Friday.
Beto O’Rouke, the former Texas Congressman who began the race as a media darling but has since worn out his welcome, has caused the biggest waves recently by declaring “hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15s, your AR-46s” during the last Democratic primary debate.
This is a position on gun control so extreme, several Democrats and left-wing pundits have distanced themselves from his position and this week, Chris Cuomo of CNN, who isn’t exactly known for his measured objectivity or animosity for extreme left-wing positions, challenged Beto on the policy.
He was also quite admirably put in his place by a gun-owning mother in Colorado who told him “hell no you’re not” taking our guns, continuing, "I would like to know how you intend to legislate evil because it is not the gun, it is the heart of the man that does that.” The crowd tried to talk over her briefly, but O’Rourke, to his credit, asked them to let her finish.
"We all have these stories. We all have the experiences. I was living in Aurora during Columbine. I had just recently moved when the Aurora shootings happened. Yet I have very close ties here. Yet all of those people were there defenseless. They had no way to defend themselves against a crazed shooter, so I want to know how you intend to legislate the hearts of men and leave American citizens like myself, American mothers. I have four children. I'm 5 foot zero, one hundred pounds, cannot really defend myself with a fist."
I think any gun-toting mama could relate to this woman and admire her bold refute of O’Rourke’s starry-eyed dream to disarm Americans.
So, as a news writer for my day job, I really need to struggle to keep my eyes focused on God when I’m daily exposed to the chaos of the American news cycle. So I wanted to close with a prayer, before offering some of my reading recommendations for what I'm currently reading to help me stay informed, grounded, or to simply escape.
Dear Lord, it seems like we live in such chaotic and often scary times, but we know that this is all the product of the fallen world that we live in. There is so much evil and injustice in the world, so many dramatic power struggles over control of our nation, so much pettiness and pride and division from those who seek to lead our country. We know this is because so many have turned away from you and from your Word, and that the principles you outline in your Word are no longer valuable to our once Christian nation. We also know, however, that you are the only true Judge, the only true Lord, the only wise King, and Lord we just pray that you comfort us daily with your promises of true justice.
We thank you Lord for your sacrifice on the cross, for the ultimate price your son Jesus paid for our sins to be forgiven and the freedom from worldly bonds that this offers us. We know Lord that while your children are slaughtered on this earth, while those in power seek to oppress us, to silence our voices, to strike down your authority, that they can never take the Gospel away from us or undermine your promises.
Fill us with your Spirit Lord and empower us to fight for your glory, for what is good and pure and true, and to spread your Good News through our communities and our country.
In Jesus name, Amen.
OK, before we go, I just wanted to share with you what I’m reading right now. Whether or not you are a fan of Ben Shapiro I think you’ll enjoy his latest book “The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great.” I really loved this book because it is the broad-sweeping survey of the history of western values and thought that I’d actually really been wanting to read. The audiobook version is particularly entertaining because it is read by Shapiro so you get all his dry humor and sarcasm. Please let me know if you read this and how you enjoy it!
If you’re a classical homeschooler and/or a conservative, you’ll definitely love this book and appreciate its excellent defense of the western values that have been so conspicuously on the decline in our nation.
Thanks again for listening (reading)!
