President Donald Trump has penned a scathing letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accusing her of orchestrating a “partisan impeachment crusade” from a “fantasy”
"The articles of impeachment introduced by the House Judiciary Committee are not recognizable under any standard of constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence," Mr. Trump wrote. "They include no crimes, misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever. You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!"
In the Senate, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has shot down Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) demands for impeachment, vowing he has no intention of pursuing the Democrats “fishing expedition.”
The House Rules Committee held a “comparatively collegial” hearing Tuesday, as CBS News describes it, ahead of Wednesday’s debate and likely full House vote on the floor. CBS News explains that “The Rules Committee is ultimately responsible for determining whether there will be any votes in the full House on amendments to the impeachment articles and how many hours of debate there will be.”
It was confirmed Monday that the Democrats have the votes they need for a full impeachment, including 17 of the 31 vulnerable Democrats in districts Trump won in 2016.
When confirmed this will be the third time in US history that a president has been impeached.
Meanwhile, a USA Today/Suffolk University poll shows the president defeating all potential 2020 rivals including Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat by 8 percentage points.
It is also being reported by investigative journalist John Solomon that in February of 2016, the Latvian government flagged suspicious payments made to former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden and urged the Ukranian government to investigate.
In Seattle, city officials are being criticized after taxpayer money was used for a graphic, highly sexual strip performance by a transgender stripper at a conference on ending homelessness.
And finally, a Netflix Christmas special depicting Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of humanity, as a homosexual man is attracting outrage among Christian conservative audiences, prompting petitions and campaigns to demand the streaming service remove the offensive content. Netflix has often stirred up outrage for featuring highly inappropriate content, often involving or appealing to children.
In closing, I am an avid reader and like to include a book recommendation when I can and I am reading a wonderful book right now called Mama Bear Apologetics. It is based on a blog that I honestly haven’t read and I don’t know much about the authors so I can’t endorse much except what I have read so far LOL, but it has been really inspiring and encouraging me as a homeschool mama. It makes a great argument for why mothers, and everyone in general really, should be ready in and out of season to give an answer to all the questions that our kids may pose about the faith and offers really accessible, simple methods for refining our own arguments and making our answers with grace, humility, and love.
All right, let’s close this news brief, as promised, in prayer.
Dear Lord, we come to you from the midst of a nation and a world that is being shaken with massive political and moral upheaval. We ask Lord that you would empower us prayerful, concerned mamas to respond to these changes and to the attacks on lawfulness and righteousness in love and boldness.
Equip us as we go about our week as mamas, wives, sisters, and citizens to shine your light brightly into this world and be governed by wisdom and grace. Equip our husbands, fathers, and brothers to respond to these changes with the fortitude and integrity of righteous men of God, and may our families and our communities be filled with the truth of your Gospel.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
